Public Education Survey

Thank you for taking a few minutes to share your thoughts on Anchorage’s public schools. This short survey should take only 3–5 minutes to complete. Your responses will remain confidential and will help me better understand what matters most to families, educators, and our broader community.

I’m grateful for your input. Every voice adds to the momentum we need to protect and strengthen public education in Anchorage.

— Paul McDonogh

I understand how ASD's budget decisions affect schools and the Anchorage community.
I believe our schools excellently prepare all students for future success.
I believe ASD's discipline policy is fair and supports student learning.
I believe current curriculum options offer a diverse range of student choices.
I believe public education should be responsive to an ever-changing world.
I believe ASD makes decisions that respect Anchorage's diverse cultural values.
I believe ASD leadership is clear and transparent when making decisions.
This past summer, Governor Dunleavy vetoed a school funding increase, but lawmakers overrode him and restored the money. Still, advocates point out that Alaska’s school districts have significantly less spending power than they did in 2017, because the Base Student Allocation (BSA) has not been adjusted for inflation. As costs climb, schools are expected to do more with dollars that don’t stretch as far as they once did. Should the BSA be adjusted?
The U.S. Department of Education recently cut funding for the Academies of Anchorage, a program in all eight high schools that expands student choice and community-based learning. The Academies had already increased graduation readiness by 7% and were originally set to receive three more years of federal support. The Anchorage School Board could choose to continue the program with local funding, though this might mean slightly larger class sizes or schedule changes. Would you support using local funds to maintain the Academies of Anchorage program?
